bike engine overheating problem reasons solution ft KTM RC 390 in air oil and liquid cooled systems

November 8, 2024 by raju ginni Leave a Comment

Introduction: my KTM RC 390 Overheating after 3-4Months of no use. when i went to rest ride to check whether it works or not it started and happly i went 1-2KM then suddenly raised the RPM and slowed down and stopped the vehicle. after few miuntes started. now there is a engine soud rattling. went showroom fixed its a Tensioner failed engines timing chain. and also replaced clutch plates. ignored heating and some bleeding in the head of engine. may due to head gasket or something.

Engine overheating can result in cracked engine blocks, warped pistons, and leaking gaskets. Additionally, the engine may produce terrible grinding and knocking noises. If left running, the engine may seize up or sustain serious damage.

KTM RC 390 Engine Over heat Reasons

  1. Engine Not cooling down  due to low coolant problem (but it indicates on the meter)
  2. High Coolant temparature (its meter signal my case its not also shown)
  3. Radiator fan not turning off  becuase engine not cool down which is detetced thermostat filter.
  4. Aged coolant oil (iam expecting this)  at least 4 years it should replaced whole 1 litre not topup at every service.
  5. Engine Oil coolant Mix failure in water seals
  6. engine pump failure or broken if it brokes engine oil not goes circulates in the engine.
  7. Malfunctioning water pump: The water pump circulates coolant throughout the engine
  8. Clogged coolant hose: Coolant hoses carry coolant to and from the engine.
  9. Blocked radiator: When the radiator fins are blocked by debris, it reduces the engine’s cooling power
  10. Low engine oil level: Low oil levels can contribute to engine overheating.
  11. Head gaket blows due to over heat (head leak engine) / cylindre pressure / degradation.
  12. Coolant age: Green color coolants lasts for 2-3 years and pink color coolants lasts for 4-5 years. antifreeze, antirust agens degrade voertime.
  13. Malfunctioning thermostat: A broken thermostat can get stuck in an open or closed state, which can cause the coolant to flow abnormally and lead to overheating

what happens if engine overheats

damage to a vehicle’s internal components and may require costly repairs or a complete engine replacement.

  • Piston rings failure
  • Pre-ignition and detonation are both uncontrolled combustion events that can damage an engine
  • Engine will seize

How Liquid engine/ water cooling system works

How coolant radiator thermiostat works in bike

coolant is circulated through internal channels around the motor. coolant absorbs the heat from the engine, its own temperature must be brought down. As a result, it is pumped towards a radiator which cools it down using atmospheric air and additional fans which activate when the vehicle is moving at slow speeds.

Liquid Cooled Engine

My problem Over heat but it manging tempature

  • Called service center guy he advised to  flush old coolant replace with new.

air cooled motorcycle engine overheating

Low engine oil: The oil level may be low, or the oil may need to be replaced.
Carburetor issues: The motorcycle may be running on a lean air/fuel mixture.

head gasket ventilation blocked due to dust clean it

Air Cooled engine system

oil cooled motorcycle engine overheating

Oil Cooled engine

oil cooling extra layer but atmospheric passing air is still the basic element used.

In engine oil cooled engine check the the fan

An engine oil cooled engine uses engine oil as a coolant to remove excess heat from the engine

Some examples of oil-cooled bikes include: Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Continental GT 650, and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V
