What is 10w30 Means engine oil viscocity grade?
Engine Oil gets thicker on cold temparatures and thinner in Higher temparatures its called viscocity.
Low temperatures = Thicker
High temperatures = Thinner
in 10w50 means
w stands for winter or cold temparatures. W oils are rated according to their flow rates at 0° F (-17.8° C).
10 Means viscocity of the engine oil in Cold temparature (when starting a cold engine).
50 means viscoity of the engine oil at bike engine operating temparature ex: 100c
or 2nd number viscosity measured at 100 degrees Celsius
0W is thinnest (“W” stands for winter)
5W
10W
15W
20W
25W

30
40
50
60 is thickest
For Example: 10W30
This means the viscosity is at 10W when the engine is cold and 30 when the engine is hot.
Upgrading 10w30 to 10w50
Thicker oil clearence in cranshfit brearings makes a drag in engine performance.(some percentage*)
Higher temparature makes oil thinner /less viscoity .. more than engine operatiing temparature 100c+
used 10w30 after 12 hours running in traffic clutch riding missing /losing compression / stopping suddenly on low rpm.
Some people upgraded 10w30 to 10350 there is no noticeable damage but improved smoothness heat protection.

Know your bike Cooloing system? (Air vs oil vs liquid cool )
Engine Oil not alone cool down the engine but also other cooling systems
- 100 cc bike mostly Air cooled
- 125cc-200 AIr+Oil cooled
- 150-1000cc+ : Liquid cooled
engine oil grade based on outside temperature
The SAE system classifies engine oil viscosity grades like 5W-30. The first number denotes winter/cold flow grade – lower means easier pumping when cold. After the “W,” the second number reflects hot operating viscosity – higher indicates thicker oil that better retains film strength under heat.
engine oil relation with outside temperature
Viscosity index (VI): VI measures how much an oil’s viscosity changes with temperature.
viscosity index improvers: polymer imroves viscocity of the oil.
A 18°C temperature difference can cause a 71% drop in viscosity.
Winter cold or summer heat affects the rate at which motor oil flows.
engine oils there is also a specification that must be met at 150°C, known as a High Temperature/High Shear (HT/HS) viscosity
